The excursion vessel Belle of Louisville, the oldest steamboat in service, a National Historic Landmark, was built in 1914 as the Idlewild. In 1947 she was renamed Avalon and since 1962 she bears the name Belle of Louisville after having been rebuilt under the supervision of Allan L. Bates. For more information on her history visit www.steamboats.org where you also find many pictures, audio files of her calliope, her whistle and some more video clips.
